Thank you so much for your patience and understanding during
the long process that was writing QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS. Many
of you know what difficulties I had writing this book. I threw
out the first half of the book last December and started over
from page 1 this January.
As previously announced on this website, QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS
was well on its way to becoming another 1,000 page book when
my editor called me to say she didn‘t think we could cut
many of the scenes from the book—nor could we increase
the page count. The only alternative was to cut the book into
two. Rain and Ellysetta‘s story will now be a quintet
(rather appropriate, don‘t you think? *gg*).
The fifth and final book of the Tairen Souls series will be
called TAIREN SOUL. (On a side note, TAIREN SOUL was the
name of the original manuscript I sold to Dorchester, which
became the books LORD OF THE FADING LANDS, and LADY OF LIGHT
AND SHADOWS, so there‘s yet another feeling of “meant
to be” with this whole book-splitting situation.)
To those of you who may be disappointed Rain and Ellysetta’s
story doesn’t end with QUEEN, I’m sorry. I tried
and tried, but I just couldn’t make it happen. I hope
you will still enjoy QUEEN. I will finish TAIREN SOUL as quickly
as I can, and I promise it will be worth the wait!

Wildlife Artist Heather Carr Puts Tairen
To Canvas
Talented wildlife artist, Heather Carr, brings the tairen of
the Fading Lands to life with her beautiful oil paintings based
on scenes in the Tairen Soul novels.
Though Heather’s primary artistic subject matter is African
wildlife, Judy York’s fabulous rendition of the tairen
on the covers of LORD OF THE FADING LANDS and LADY OF LIGHT
AND SHADOWS caught Heather’s eye and reminded her of the
“winged panthers” she used to draw earlier in her
career. The Fading Lands novels inspired her
to return to those earlier fantasy works.

playfully through a bright summer sky in Heather Carr's original

is my personal favorite. I love the bright, blue summer sky,
the rich golden hue of Fahreeta's fur, the affectionate twining
of their tails as they tumble, the soft undertones of outstretched
wings gleaming with translucent pinkness in the sun. It's as
if Heather lifted the image straight from my imagination and
transferred it to canvas.
