Question of the Day

In movies, the way the hero and heroine meet is called the “meet cute”.  Name one of your favorite “meet cutes” (books or movies) and tell us what made it so memorable/enjoyable for you?

My favorite “meet cutes” has to be in The Winter King. When Wynter first meets Khamsin face to face. The passion between them is.. indescribable and completely gripping.

I think it is in Young Elites, when Adelina and Enzo meet the first time. I like it because both has dark sides.

When Rhysand and Feyre meet in A Court of Thorns and Roses.

“I’ve been looking for you”.

And he had. So cute!!

I love the accidental meetings when some mishap happens, they are always th funniest.

This was a hard one. Nothing in particular stands out but one where humour is involved sticks out.

Oh so many meet cutes to choose from, but I’ll choose one from a recent book I read – Turbulence by Whitney G. The hero and heroine meets at a party and she tells him she’s a pilot and he says he’s an author. It’s so hilarious because they both lied about their careers and unknowingly chooses the true career of the other. He’s the pilot and she’s the author. I still laugh when I think about that scene.

You’ve Got Mail. Because they have no idea who the other is and still form a bond. The fact that they are competing retailers makes it even better.

Pretty Woman. Love the whole movie.

My favorite “meet cute” was William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio. They met at the masquerade ball through an aquarium. It was cute playful and fun. I always loved to watch that spark of attraction blossom to life as they gazed at each other through the fish. I brawled like a baby when they died you would have thought they were relatives when I watched the movie. Even though I knew it ended this way I really felt their connection.

From Howl’s Moving Castle . Howl was escaping and by chance meet Sophie and they literally walked on air. Then they meet again when Sophie was turned into an old lady.I super love that movie.

Straight up when Rain comes down from the sky for Ellie. I can always see it in my mind’s eye so vividly, it’s breathtaking.

The meet cute is always one of my very favorite parts! Ugh I have so many that I love from books and movies! Elizabeth and Darcy meeting at the assembly is my all time favorite! I love the banter and that they don’t really like each other at first!

Marguerite G.

  on October 21, 2017 :

Difficult to narrow it down (so many great moments) but the meeting between Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester is an all time favourite!

Lord of the fading lands- a tairen falling out of the sky is pretty awesome.

Alyssa Susanna (The Eater of Books!)

  on October 21, 2017 :

I love meet cutes in which the hero and heroine don’t like each other AT ALL at first… maybe it’s because the heroine heard something about the hero’s reputation, or vice versa, or they simply got off on the wrong foot. In any case, I love meet cutes in which it’s more of irritation than cute. Hate-to-love romances are my favorite, so that makes sense! 😀

Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend.

I love how Vhalla and Aldrik meet in Air Awakens by Elise Kova. Vhalla accidentally forges a magical link with Aldrik while believing she is working to save his brother’s life instead of his. Then she believes her initial meeting a dream.

Deanna nagle

  on October 21, 2017 :

I always love it when they first meet and there’s a misunderstanding of some kind.

Lindsi Clark

  on October 21, 2017 :

Two of my favorites are in Judith McKnaught books. In Whitney, My Love, Whitney and Clayton meet at a Parisian masquerade ball. Whitney doesn’t even remember it (She really didn’t care for him though), but he was captivated by her. In Until You, Stephen (Clayton’s brother) has accidentally killed a woman’s fiance coming to England from America in a carriage accident, and the bride has eloped with a passenger on the ship. Her companion is meeting Stephen on the docks when she is struck on the head by a crate, causing her to have amnesia. For most of the rest of the novel, he thinks she’s the fiancee, and she thinks he’s her betrothed.
