Question of the Day

In movies, the way the hero and heroine meet is called the “meet cute”.  Name one of your favorite “meet cutes” (books or movies) and tell us what made it so memorable/enjoyable for you?

I like the type of “meet cutes” where one person is expecting someone but there is a mistaken identity so the person that actually shows up is not the one the first person thought would come. Or perhaps like the end scene in “Sleepless in Seattle” when they go back to get son’s the backpack and she is actually there.

Bella Swan and Edward Cullens in Twilight. You new they were fated to be together. Love…love…

I like how Ellie and rain met. His instant reaction to her was dramatic and caused a bit of chaos.
There’s other good meet cutes but none in particular that come to mind.
At a slight tangent, a favourite hero introduction of mine is captain jack sparrow in the first film when he steps off his sinking ship onto the dock.

I love how they met in ‘While you were sleeping’! The humor and over the top emotions made it perfect. And there is something about the “wrong identity” aspect in books and movies that I love.

I can’t think of one in particular that has stuck with me. Obviously I love how Ellie and Rain meet!

i’m sure I have dozens, but I love how ellysetta called rain from the sky. so dramatic and romantic!

i liked the meeting in the book so you want to start a scandal by tessa dare. she secretly follows him to meet with him to tell him to stay far away from her , because her match making mama will try to cause some scandal forcing him to marry her. then they have to hide when another couple comes in the room and makes out and somebody heard said couple so the hero and heroine get blamed. also i like books where the girl is disguised as a boy becuse it is fun to see how long it takes the hero to figure it out and what he does about it.

My favorite was when Elysetta called the Tairen Soul Rainier from the sky. He loved and protected her instantly and she felt drawn to him.

My favorite would have to be Mira and Danaus from Jocelynn Drake’s Nightwalker series. Danaus was a hunter of nightwalkers and Mira is a nightwalker who is being chased by the naturi, one of the nightwalkers most hated enemies. Danaus is sent to get information from Mira in an attempt to stop the naturi from releasing their Queen and the majority of the naturi from a different realm that Mira was used in sealing them in.

I’ve never forgotten how Elly and Rain met… It’s definitely one of my favs.

Will and Lou in Me Before You! Hysterical! I laughed so hard!!

Bridget Clark

  on October 21, 2017 :

I like how Nevada and Roland meet in Burn for Me. He kidnaps her to grill her for information on her case. She forgives him after a book and half, but never lets him forget their first meeting.

  on October 21, 2017 :

I like different kinds of “meet cutes” , like when they grew up together, but haven’t seen each other in years. An example that comes to mind is in Jayne Castle’s Harmony series a book called Canyons of Night has the “meet cute”. Another one that I like is when two people who seem not to like each other are thrown together for some reason (like for work) and have to work together, but realise they have a thing for each other. I also like the “meet cute” setup in Nalini Singh’s Guildhunter series between Elena and Raphael, that dynamic was interesting.

Ellie and Rain’s meet cute is one of my favorites. I like how Ellie was a bit of a damsel in distress and Rain was there to be the uber protective knight in shining armor. It’s a classic meet cute that when done correctly, never gets old.

I also like the meet cutes in Judith McNaught’s historical novels. For Whitney My Love, it was love at first sight for the hero, but hate at first sight for the heroine. It was really fun to see how the characters interacted in that situation.

Oops forgot to explain Camille and Alain. It’s basically Beauty and the Beast and very French and surprisingly innocent fraught with adventure.

Rex Anne

  on October 21, 2017 :

1995 and 1940s versions of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.
Obviously, Ellie and Rain.
Harry and Hermione (I ship them even if they only became friends).
Once upon a winter’s night’s Camille and Alain.

EB/FD: just so much polite chemistry it made it a delightful battle of wits.

EB/RVD: yes, she was afraid of him but her fainting in his arms was kinda adorable. And how she reacted when Marrisya mind-touched her spoke of Ellie’s backbone. More to come :-).

HJP/HJG: I liked how they balanced one another and taught each other friendship and love. It was more sweet and nice to see.

I can’t remember any. I looked it up as I wasn’t aware of the term. My husband and I met in a very interesting manner. His Jeep gave us a lift. He left the front seat for me and jumped on the back seat. After which he carried on a witty conversation. I hadn’t even seen his face due to inadequate lighting.
Nothing could be cuter!

North and South BBC miniseries with Richard Armitage. When Margaret and John first meet it doesn’t seem like they would end up together. But from that moment, it was great to see their characters evolve.
