Question of the Day

Some people love to read novels set in Scotland.  Some people love to read about serial killers.  Some people love to read books about aliens who fall in love with earthlings.  What’s one of your favorite book tropes and what it is that you find so appealing about it?

I love urban fanatasy books set in the modern world but with elemental magic as a big part of the world. Some examples of these are Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy or Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series. I love seeing the society and politics involved in having that kind of world.

I love books set in all different times and places, not just paranormal, but always with a strong alpha male who is strong and possessive of his female. I usually like a male that very dominant but loving.

  on October 13, 2017 :

I especially love PNR and urban fantasy. One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers, which I think I like because it gives instant tension between the two main characters.

Magic, always, yes. But also strong-willed female leads who teach the alpha males in their lives to appreciate beauty, kindness, hope, creativity and
innocence. Christine Feehan’s Dark series, as well as your fae warriors.

  on October 13, 2017 :

Strong alpha males who change for the better when they meet the one.

They all tough and hard but then soften and it makes my insides gooey.

Can’t stay away. It helps if magic or Scottish accents are involved! 🙂

I enjoy books set in Scotland a lot…just something about how they describe the land there that appeals to me…

English countryside mysteries. There doesn’t have to be a death but that subtype of mystery gets me every time.

Mythology. All of those different gods and goddess from multiple pantheons. You can learn a lot about a society by understanding their beliefs and legends.

  on October 13, 2017 :

I love so many different kinds of books as each one can be magical with how the author creates the characters and worlds. I would have to say that paranormal romance or fantasy is my favorite type of book. I love the magic in the books, the strength of the characters and heroine or heroe, the love and devotion, and the family and friend connections that make me feel right along with the story as if I were there.

Jennifer Hubbard

  on October 13, 2017 :

Novels involving the fae are always my favorites. There are many great worlds created and amazing versions of these magical beings out there.

Zoe Miles

  on October 13, 2017 :

I love a lot of different tropes but one of my favorites is when an author takes mythology and puts a twist to it, modernizes it, etcetera. Some examples that I love are the Percy Jackson series (or really anything by Rick Riordan) and the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love mythology, have always been fascinated by it, and I love when an author takes the traditional stories and characters and makes them they’re own.

  on October 13, 2017 :

I enjoy all kinds of books that have either a family or group of people who fall to their love one by one. Doesn’t seem to matter where or what but it’s the continued saga that I like. Started for me with Jude Devereau’s The Black Lyon that went into The Velvet series. I was still in middle school when that happened. I still go back to read them again from time to time.

I have been on an urban fantasy kick recently. I find it appealing for the tough heroines and the good vs evil situations. Really needing that mental escape just now.

Current binge is aliens and earthlings. The idea of adventure and different life out there is an interesting one.

Donna Jenks

  on October 13, 2017 :

I have a serious love for anything regarding faeries/the Fae/magic in general and anything in that realm. I can’t really say what pulls me to those types of novels/reads other than that it’s so wonderful to escape to a world where the impossible is possible and love always wins.

Amanda Warner

  on October 13, 2017 :

I love all kinds of genres. Magic, paranormal, historical romance, murder mystery. If I can enjoy the characters I can fall for any and all stories. If I had to pick just one, today it would be paranormal fantasy. =D

Danielle Schick

  on October 13, 2017 :

Fantasy / romance fantasy mostly.
I love to be transported to another place, and the hopeless romantic in me loves the idea of overcoming ones owns hangups and fighting for love, also handsome knights in not so much armor is somewhat apeling.

Rebekah Cowan

  on October 13, 2017 :

Magic. I love stories that involve magic. Specifically magic wielders

Gina

  on October 13, 2017 :

Any supernatural, but I am most obsessed with vampires! I don’t know exactly what the allure is but it doesn’t hurt that most authors make the male vampires extremely hot! Also the escapism that supernatural provides can be therapeutic in a world with so much craziness going on.

I love Regency England. I am fascinated by a society guided by such strict guidelines.
